Women Writers Worldwide ~ "Her"story
Originally Women Writers of the Desert

What happened to Women Writers of the Desert? ... For nearly five years, Women Writers of the Desert provided Phoenix women writers with a monthly meeting and platform of education, support and networking avenues to share the ups and downs of a writer’s life – as it affects women. I founded and guided the organization, enjoying every minute. However, it came time to focus again on my own writing, plus I envisioned this same kind of support on a broader scale through the Internet – but I could not “do it all.” Regrettably, the WWD membership did not offer subsequent leadership and the monthly meetings were discontinued. Women Writers of the Desert as it was, has adjourned for the last time.

But when one door closes, another opens ... From messages and phone calls received during this time of transformation, I have recognized a need still exists for women writers to be able to connect, not only online for the sake of convenience, but in periodic face-to-face and hand-through-hand events. For that reason, the annual conferences and contests I produced for WWD and the constant encouragement and empowerment shared, continues in a fresh environment, for all writers wherever they may be in the world, with a focus on women’s issues.

No regrets and lots of growth ... During our membership years, we produced three conferences, compiled and published a membership anthology, and helped empower several members to publish for the first time. Experienced WWD authors mentored and encouraged them. It was a privilege learning from, teaching, supporting and enjoying the members of Women Writers of the Desert. While we no longer meet monthly, I hope our network will endure and grow globally, while still enjoying the bi-annual events that will bring us together again.

In the beginning ... It was December, 2001 that LinDee Rochelle, then in Phoenix, Arizona, raised her cyber-hand to volunteer as regional representative to a national writing organization based on the Internet, with a desire to use this vehicle to unite women writers of the metropolitan Phoenix Valley.

By January 2003, Women Writers of the Desert had 26 members and much to our delight, continued to grow, expanding membership to an average of 50 + talented and dynamic women. We elected to go independent of the national organization and thrived, both personally and professionally. We not only enjoyed writing, but each other, and the quest for quality life.

Women Writers Worldwide ... Exciting features to this new venture are planned that will continue to provide you the information, encouragement, networking, and writing opportunities, instilled by Women Writers of the Desert and as always, welcome all writers, regardless of your experience level or genre. Let's connect with women and writers in every corner of the world.
